Porcelain Veneers and Neuromuscular Dentistry Smile Makeover

Porcelain Veneers and Neuromuscular Dentistry

Knowing she had alignment problems with her bite, Ms. Willis came to the Konig Center for Cosmetic & Comprehensive Dentistry in Houston, Texas, looking for a completely new smile.

Dr. Konig thoroughly analyzed her smile and suggested the first step should concentrate on neuromuscular dentistry to realign her bite to the correct position, resulting in a less weary looking smile.

Ms. Willis displayed several symptoms of TMD, worn teeth, neck pain and clicking sounds in the jaw. Using various aligners over several months Dr. Konig was able to fully align her bite to the natural position. Other symptoms of TMJ include headaches, back aches, loose, cracked or broken teeth, and grinding your teeth.

Before Neuromuscular Dentistry and Porcelain Veneers

In this image Ms. Willis' misaligned bite is obvious with the lower jaw retracted into the mouth and the pronounced overbite. Dr. Konig used special aligners to slowly train the jaw muscles back to their correct position. Also seen here is severely worn lower teeth, slightly inward, as a result of the unnatural (forced) position. Notice the upper teeth are also worn and uneven from friction against the lower teeth.

After Neuromuscular Dentistry and Porcelain Veneers

Here, the natural alignment of the mouth can be seen with closure on the molars during bite and little, if any friction on the front teeth to prevent wear. To help keep the realignment permanent, Dr. Konig also used porcelain veneers to replace the worn down teeth of her previous smile. This results in a fantastic smile with all teeth visible, the jaw line and chin are more pronounced and chewing is done with much more ease. Gone are her symptoms of TMD, worn teeth, neck pain and clicking sounds in the jaw.

If you live in Baytown, Galveston, or Houston and have questions or concerns about your teeth and dental health, or additional questions about neuromuscular dentistry and porcelain veneers, schedule a cosmetic dentistry consultation with Dr. Konig at the Konig Center for Cosmetic & Comprehensive Dentistry. Your new and brighter smile could be just a phone call away!
